Experience what you get when you give

Giving blood or plasma can save someone’s life. But for a donor, the experience can be deeply rewarding and validating. It’s about more than just giving a part of yourself to someone else; together, we’re saving each other.

The Fall Get Together is your chance to experience what you get when you give, side by side with your crew.

Being part of Hockey Gives Blood is a real honour. This summer, we had the opportunity to hear people share their stories and discuss the positive impact of blood donations. It is a small investment of time every few months, but it can be life-changing for others, and knowing that makes the process incredibly rewarding.

- Cole Fraser
HGB Player Ambassador

I’m very grateful for the opportunity to give blood, as the Canadian Blood Service saved my grandfather's life when he was in a life-threatening accident working for the OPP. Every time I donate I think of him and all the memories we are able to share because of the selflessness and generosity of others.

- Simon Rose
HGB Player Ambassador

As a blood recipient, getting involved is deeply personal to me. Every blood drive hosted by DHL Supply Chain leaves me in awe of the dedication and generosity of our teams — it’s truly inspiring. I feel fortunate to be part of an organization that not only supports our communities but also empowers me to give back.

- Meghan Trann,
Partners for Life Champion

How does my school actually get bragging rights?

It's all about the DPA (Donor Point Average). The school with the highest percentage of its team members having shown up to an appointment wins. Basically, the more of your school's crew that participates, the better your chances.

FAQs

Okay, so if our school is #1, do we all get the drip?

Not everyone, but those who attended an appointment will score the limited-edition hoodie and a ticket to the exclusive Friendsgiving Banquet.

How do I make sure my visit to the donor centre helps my school's score?

Easy. Make sure you’ve officially joined your school’s Partners for Life (PFL) team. You can find your school team by selecting the province and school from a drop-down menu on this contest landing page. Once you're on the roster, just show up for your appointment and your attendance will automatically boost your school's stats.

If I donate a bunch of times, does that make me a hero?

You're always a hero for donating! But for the contest, your attendance only counts once toward the DPA score. It’s a team effort, so the goal is to get as many different people as possible from your squad to come through.

How do I stay updated on where my school stands?

There's a leaderboard on this contest landing page, showing the Top 10 schools. It updates daily, so you can see who's climbing and who's falling off.

I already won a hoodie in the random draw. Can I get a second one?

Yes! Consider it a side quest. Winning in the random draw doesn't kick you out of the running for the Campus Contest. You can totally win both if you're on the winning team.

Your attendance counts towards your school’s Donor Point Average (DPA) which is calculated by the percentage of team members who show up to donate (example: 10 members, 8 show up = 80 DPA). The school with the highest DPA wins, which means everyone from that team who attended an appointment gets a limited-edition donor hoodie and attend a Friendsgiving banquet.

Check out the national leaderboard to see where your school is ranking in the competition.

Current top runners

The best part is your crew doesn’t need to be huge, what matters is every member shows up. Big or small, every campus has a shot!

Numbers are approximate. The leaderboard is updated daily to show the top 10 schools. Schools with the same score are listed alphabetically.

Donor Point Average (DPA) made simple:

Your school’s score is the percentage of team members who show up for their donation appointment.

Example: 10 members, 8 show up = DPA 80.
