Your little miracle could be someone else's hero

  • After a baby is born, the blood left in the umbilical cord and placenta is rich with life-saving stem cells. If it’s not donated, the cord blood becomes discarded as medical waste.

  • The stem cells from your cord blood can treat over 80 diseases and disorders—including leukemia, lymphoma, and aplastic anemia.

  • Cord blood collection does not interfere with your birth plans, including delayed cord blood clamping.

  • By donating your cord blood, you can help save the lives of other Canadians and people around the world.

On your delivery day, inform your hospital that you’re donating to the public cord blood bank. After the safe delivery of your baby and placenta, your cord blood will be brought to one of our team members.

3. Have your cord blood collected

Your cord blood will be tested  to ensure there are enough cells for a patient in need. If your cord blood qualifies, our team member will visit you before you leave the hospital to collect additional information.
